What My Miscarriages Have Taught Me, And What It Has To Do With Photography
Last week, I shared about our walk on a path we never imagined for ourselves – miscarriage. You can read more about that here. This experience has broken me open, shifted my priorities, and opened my eyes to the goodness and faithfulness of God in ways that I couldn’t have known otherwise. I truly believe there is purpose in the pain, and this waiting season is part of how we’ll fully learn to surrender.
I now understand the depths and sacredness of motherhood, of family, and living in an intentional way so as to consistently appreciate the beauty of the everyday. Motherhood changes you, whether you’ve held your baby in your arms or not. I’ve also recognized just how fleeting time can be, watching our dear friends’ children grow in the blink of an eye.
As I’ve grieved and processed everything we’ve gone through over the past few months, I’ve felt a stirring in my heart to pursue my art in a different way. That is the nature of a creative business – as you grow, evolve, and shift, so too does your creative expression. I long to document the simplicity and beauty of the everyday – the strength of motherhood, the importance of family, the magic of life at home, and the pursuit of a life well-lived. I’m especially drawn to maternity, birth, newborn, and motherhood photography, a true testament to how God is giving purpose to this season.
For me, this means taking an approach to photography that is more documentary at its core. Telling a story, your story, that you will want to remember for years to come. For me, it’s simply about capturing that which means the most in our lives. That being said, I’m so excited to capture these real, raw, and honest moments.
In the midst of our heartbreak, I find myself wanting to share more about our journey, so more to come. For now, I wanted to share something that resonated with me recently – “God wants us to pursue His presence over the promise.” I pray that you find peace in whatever situation may be giving you unrest right now, friends!
